INCLUDES 1 WOOD BLANK (several blanks are shown to indicate the range of color/grain to expect). From equatorial Africa, Ebony is usually found in wet lowlands near rivers and swaps. Devoid of color, Ebony has ink black with lighter streaks. Only a small percentage of Ebony (three to five percent) produce the highest quality jet black color. Some of these pen blanks may have a slight hint of discoloration, but you will not find a darker ebony than this! Ebony is hard and costly to produce, which makes it a rare species to obtain. It is difficult to work, glues satisfactorily, and has a tendency to want to split, but takes a really nice polish that makes it worth the work. Skill level: Intermediate.

Ebony takes a very high polish and turns well despite its density. Blanks have been air drying since 2015 and contain residual moisture. They are wax sealed.

Gabon Ebony is highly sought after for its dark color. This is very high quality material with excellent color. A minor surface check, slightly rounded corner edge, or machete edge may be present.
