Goldfield burls are a rare and wonderful species from Australia that can be expected to yield exceptional projects! This burl cookie slice has been air dried for 3.5 years as of 2021 and may contain some residual moisture, but is mostly dry. It has been surfaced on two sides to reveal the natural burl eyes & rich color. Cookies 2 ft. and larger in diameter may have a slight bow or cup. The edge is natural and bark free with a unique live burl edge that can be utilized creatively. Some surface checks and incursions may be present. Rustic pieces will contain more of these. Australian Red River Gum has light pink to red colors. Pieces generally have figure on the quarter sawn faces or edges. This dense wood was freshly cut in March of 2023, completely wax sealed, and contains residual moisture. Twice turning is recommended. Please take care to cover the partially turned blank until it dries. Store this wood in a cool, dry location. Checks and some shrinkage can develop as the wood dries. An occasional rough or live edge or minor check may be present.
